Endoscopic Ultrasound

Doctors use endoscopic ultrasound, or EUS, to get detailed pictures and information about your digestive tract. EUS combines an endoscope with an ultrasound probe attached at the end.

Your doctor may recommend EUS based upon lab results, findings and MRIs or CAT scan results to:

  • Evaluate pancreatic diseases
  • Examine tumors or other growths; we can examine them under a microscope for a quicker, more accurate diagnosis
  • Cancer staging to choose the most appropriate treatment plan

Endoscopic Ultrasound: What to Expect

Undergoing EUS, preparations will depend upon what area of the body is being examined. Your doctor will advise you what is appropriate. In most cases this is done as an outpatient procedure, therefore you will need a safe ride home.
