Cardiac Rehabilitation

Just because you have had heart problems or have been told you are at risk for heart disease, doesn't mean you have to become a spectator in life. St. Anthony's Cardiac Rehabilitation program can help you stay active and maintain your quality of life. ;Our medically prescribed cardiac program emphasizes safe physical conditioning and is specially designed for those at high risk for heart problems. Our program is nationally certified by the American Association of Cardio-Vascular Pulmonary Rehabilitation (AACVPR).

We Specialize in Hearts Like Yours

Cardiac Rehabilitation is designed for anyone with an existing or potential heart problem. Your physician can determine if our program is for you. Generally, our program benefits patients who have coronary heart disease, which includes:

  • Heart attacks
  • Coronary bypass surgery
  • Angioplasty/stents
  • Stable angina
  • Heart valve surgery
  • Heart transplant

How Cardiac Rehabilitation Works

You'll exercise three times a week for one hour each time. Your exercise sessions will be monitored by a professional. During each session, your heart rate and rhythm will be continuously monitored. Your blood pressure will be taken before and after your exercise program.

A typical cardiac rehab session includes:

  • Warm-up exercises for 8 to 10 minutes
  • Aerobic activities such as walking or cycling for 20 to 30 minutes
  • Cool-down exercises for 8 to 10 minutes

Your exercise "prescription" will be adjusted throughout your program as your cardiovascular health improves. Progress reports will be sent to your physician. Of course, our center has medical equipment necessary to handle any emergency situation that might arise. In addition to exercise, we emphasize education for both you and your family. This education focuses on nutritional guidance, stress management and modification of risk factors.

Benefits of Cardiac Rehabilitation

You've heard that exercise can help prevent heart disease before it starts. But did you know it also helps people with current heart conditions? Even light exercise can make a positive difference in your overall health.

Physically, a structured and monitored exercise program can lower your pulse, blood pressure and cholesterol, while helping you function better in everyday life. The benefits don't stop there. By being informed and taking positive steps to reduce your risks, you should be able to be more active, as long as you know your limits. You'll also gain confidence, feel an improved sense of well-being and have a renewed interest in life.
