Volunteer Nurse Program

Do you miss nursing? Become a volunteer nurse.

The Volunteer Nurse Program provides a structured environment and a clinical setting for retired nurses or those taking a break in their career to continue their passion for patient care while supplementing the work of staff nurses. Give back to your community and profession with a time commitment and schedule that you control, and enjoy access to FREE Continuing Education Units (CEUs) offered by the hospital.

What do volunteer nurses do?

They help provide the "softer touches" and valuable one-on-one time to patients and families. Tasks include reinforcing patient teaching, providing emotional support, offering bedside companionship, assisting with hygiene, feeding and ambulation, providing comfort measures and much more.

Who can be a volunteer nurse?

A volunteer nurse must have a current active RN/LPN license,  have work experience of 2 or more years and a current Basic Life Support CPR card.

How are volunteer nurses identified?

Volunteer nurses wear white scrub tops and royal blue scrub pants. Their volunteer name badge is accompanied with a gold Volunteer Nurse hang tag.

Who supervises volunteer nurses?

While on the units, volunteer nurses are supervised by the charge nurse.
