Pediatric Emergency Center at Mease Countryside Hospital

When emergencies happen, you can be confident in the expert team at Mease Countryside Hospital to provide your child with exceptional medical care. Our dedicated pediatric emergency center (ER) was designed with your child’s health and well-being in mind.

Our specialized resources include:

• A dedicated pediatric emergency team that understands the unique medical needs of children, including board-certified pediatric emergency physicians, physician's assistants, nurse practitioners, registered nurses and other support team members
• Access to pediatric specialists for consultation on-site or by phone for every emergency or specialty procedure if necessary 
• Specialized equipment and protocols to diagnose and treat children of all ages
• Child Life Specialists to help explain diagnoses and procedures to children in a way they can understand. They use play techniques to distract and calm young patients when necessary and they offer support to parents and siblings as well, helping them learn to cope with the situation.
• We do our best to minimize the pain and anxiety children typically feel when coming to the ER as much as possible, using things like cold spray and other drug-free methods of pain relief and do procedures needle-less when possible. 

Our facility offers a kid-friendly environment including a dedicated waiting room designed just for kids. And our care team is trained to talk to kids like they’re kids to make them feel safe and comforted. Our private rooms feature an in-room entertainment system offering kids’ movies, educational programs and computer games.

The entire emergency care team are experts in working together to ensure that your child’s care is the best it can be and as part of the BayCare family, we have access to everyone and everything that’s needed to take care of your child in an emergency.

Our pediatric emergency center is capable of treating any emergency but should a child require additional specialized treatment we can arrange for transfer to the Steinbrenner Children's Emergency and Trauma Center at St. Joseph’s Children’s Hospital in Tampa.
