Both Kevin Corrigan, BayCare Medical Group’s current chief administrative officer and Lee Kirkman, MD, FACP, chief medical officer, announced their retirement earlier this year which created the openings for the new positions. “We are grateful to Kevin and Dr. Kirkman for playing an integral role in establishing BayCare Medical Group as the largest multi-specialty physician group in the greater Tampa Bay area, with more than 500 providers and over 40 specialties,” said Bruce Flareau, MD, executive vice president and chief medical officer for BayCare. In 2014, BayCare’s physician groups -- HealthPoint Medical Group, Morton Plant Mease Primary Care and Specialists, St. Anthony’s Primary Care and Specialists and Suncoast Medical Clinic became BayCare Medical Group.
“Bill has over 20 years of experience as an administrative leader and is a champion of physician operations. His capabilities will serve him well as he transitions into his new role at BayCare Medical Group,” said Waters. As president of St. Anthony’s Hospital, Ulbricht has led major expansions including the opening of a new three-story, 105,000-sq.-ft., Emergency Center and Patient Care Tower in January 2012 and the affiliation between Suncoast Medical Clinic and St. Anthony’s which culminated in the opening of a new clinic facility in December, 2012. He has had also had operational responsibility for St. Anthony’s Primary Care, St. Anthony’s Specialty Care and Suncoast Medical Center. Before St. Anthony’s, he was the hospital president at South Florida Baptist. Additionally, he has served as a chief financial officer.
Dr. Fink is a practicing BayCare Medical Group internist at Morton Plant North Bay, where he also currently serves as the part-time Director of Physician Services. In addition to this leadership role, he was the Vice President of Morton Plant Mease Primary Care. “As a primary care physician with 17 years of clinical practice, a board member of both BMG and BayCare Physician Partners, and a former chair and champion of the physician office electronic medical record (EMR), Dr. Fink has the necessary experience and qualifications to bring BMG to the next level of performance” said Flareau.
As incoming president of St. Anthony’s Hospital, Smith brings his experience in opening the new 90-bed St. Joseph’s Hospital-South in Riverview in 2015. “Scott has done an excellent job of establishing it as a valued institution in the southern Hillsborough County community,” noted Waters. “He has proven his ability to guide the team and build bridges to the community.” Smith started his career in health care as a pharmacist, transitioning into health care administration after seven years. He held administrative leadership positions at Craven Regional Medical Center and Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital, both in North Carolina, before serving as CEO of Fannin Regional Hospital in Georgia, Russell County Medical Center in Virginia and Lake Wales Medical Center in Florida.
