Center to Focus on Providing Coordinated and Individualized Care for Women

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla., (August 11, 2016) --To help bring coordinated, comprehensive care to women, BayCare Medical Group has opened the Primary Care Center for Women’s Health. Following the Patient-Centered Medical Home model, the center is staffed by women to create individualized care plans that meet each patient’s health and wellness needs.

“Women can be responsible for so many things – taking care of their family, work, volunteering, school and more, that it can be hard to fit in medical screenings and check-ups, not to mention fitness activities,” said Gina Schell, DO, medical director for BayCare Medical Group and the Primary Care Center for Women’s Health.

“With a patient-centered medical home physician practice in a convenient location, our goal is to take a partnership approach in making it easier for women to make their own health a priority.”

Located in the BayCare Outpatient Center in Carillon, the Primary Care Center for Women’s Health is staffed by female providers including specialists, a care coordinator and a health coach. “In a patient-centered medical home physician practice, the patient is at the center of her health care team,” said Dr. Schell. “The team includes doctors and other health professionals who create a care plan to help the patient achieve health and wellness goals. Patients are encouraged to take an active role in managing their health.”

The lead physician at BayCare’s Primary Care Center for Women is Teeresa Sisodia, MD. Dr. Sisodia is board certified and recertified in family medicine and has taught inpatient and outpatient care to medical students. She has presented on self-care, exercise and nutrition as well as topics in women’s health.

“It is so exciting to be able to help women focus on their health and wellness,” said Dr. Sisodia. “Our goal is to coordinate lab work, imaging and even specialist appointments so that it works together as a support system of patient care.”

Dr. Sisodia earned her Doctor of Medicine from the University of Miami, Miller School of Medicine in Miami. Fluent in English, Spanish and Hindi, she is a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians and the Florida Academy of Family Physicians.

BayCare’s Primary Care Center for Women also offers women’s specialty care including breast care, female urology, gastroenterology, cardiology and rheumatology. In addition to being located in the Carillon area which is convenient for women who work in that area, the BayCare Outpatient Center offers a variety of other services including a Wellness Center, imaging, lab, a café and valet parking.

Open Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday from 7 a.m. – 4 p. m. and Wednesday, 10 a.m. – 7 p.m., the practice is accepting female patients ages 18 and over.
