5K and 10K to Benefit Prostate and Breast Cancer Programs at Morton Plant Mease

CLEARWATER, Fla., (August 5, 2015) -- The Morton Plant Mease Foundation invites runners and walkers to be a part of the inaugural “Rock the Ribbon” Saturday, Sept. 26. The former “Miles for Men” event has combined the pink and the blue ribbons symbolic of the fights against breast and prostate cancer to become “Rock the Ribbon.”  The 5K, 10K and Kids Dash event will benefit both the prostate and breast health programs of Morton Plant Mease.

“Rock the Ribbon,” presented by Urology Specialists of West Florida, is a family-friendly USATF certified 10K (6.2 miles) and 5K (3.1 miles) that will start at Morton Plant Hospital and send runners and walkers across the Clearwater Memorial Causeway Bridge and back. The 5K and 10K races begin at 6:30 p.m. A Kids Dash for ages 1-10 will be held prior to the 5K and 10K at 6 p.m.

The chip-timed “Rock the Ribbon” race will include race photos, custom pink or blue t-shirts, live bands and a post-race party featuring food, drinks, prizes and entertainment.

Awards will be given to the overall winners and the top three finishers in each age group. In addition, all kids who participate in the Kids Dash will receive an award.

The cost is
  • 5K -- $30 through 9/21 and $35 from 9/22 through race day
  • 10K -- $35 through 9/21 and $40 from 9/22 through race day
  • Kids Dash -- $10 through 9/26
The race is part of Morton Plant Mease’s recognition of September as National Prostate Cancer Awareness Month and October as National Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

The hospitals of Morton Plant Mease offer cancer patients the most advanced treatment options available to combat the disease. A variety of support groups and services are also available to all cancer patients and their families to help them cope with the impact of cancer on their daily lives. Proceeds from “Rock the Ribbon” will be used to provide free community screenings, education and counselling services.
