Morton Plant Mease Hosts Several Community Health Seminars in April

CLEARWATER, Fla., (March 4, 2014) - Morton Plant Mease invites the community to attend free upcoming health seminars in April with several spotlighting diabetes to recognize Diabetes Awareness Month; others will focus on memory disorders, foot and ankle pain, Parkinson’s disease and sleep hypnotherapy. The seminars are held at various Morton Plant Mease facilities and community centers. 

Diabetes: Fact or Fiction
April 3, 10 a.m. 
Mease Dunedin Hospital, 601 Main St., Meeting Rooms 1 & 2, Dunedin 

Diane Thornton, a registered dietitian and certified diabetes educator, will focus on facts about diabetes. 

Facts About Parkinson’s Disease
April 4, Noon
Lake Seminole Square – 5th Floor Auditorium, 8333 Seminole Blvd., Seminole

Neurologist Michael Andriola, MD, will speak about how to detect, the diagnosis and latest treatment options for Parkinson’s Disease.

Foot Screening
April 9, 1:30 p.m.
Palm Harbor Wellness Center, Conference Room, 32672 U.S. Hwy 19 N, Palm Harbor

This event includes a foot screening to evaluate any foot-related issues. Podiatrists Salvatore DeLellis, DPM, and Christopher Roever, DPM, will offer an overview of proper foot care.

Memory Screenings
April 11, 9 a.m.
Aging Well Center at The Long Center, Grand Room, 1501 N Belcher Road, Clearwater

Memory screenings are a significant first step toward discovering if a person may have a memory problem. Learn more about how memory problems could be caused by Alzheimer's disease or other medical conditions and attend for a free memory screening. Registration is required for this screenings event. 

Treating Foot and Ankle Pain

Join orthopedic surgeon Richard Abdo, MD, to learn more about common foot and ankle conditions and the latest treatment options. 

Hypnosis and Sleep

Neurologist Stuart Sinoff, MD, will discuss the correlation between sleep and hypnosis, how hypnotherapy can be a useful tool for a good night’s sleep, and techniques that can be used to help people relax and fall asleep easily and stay asleep. 

Dining Out Healthy with Diabetes

Diane Thornton, a registered dietitian and certified diabetes educator, will discuss how people with diabetes can eat healthy while dining out. 

Sodium Sensibility in Today’s World

Shelaine Williams, registered dietitian and certified diabetes educator, will discuss the correct daily sodium intake for the patient with diabetes.

Neurosurgeon Carrie Shulman, MD, will discuss noninvasive and minimally invasive techniques for relieving back pain.

Balance Issues
April 28, 2 p.m.
