    • Dr. Shannon Barsema is a board-certified clinical psychologist. She specializes in neuropsychology and geropsychology. She received her undergraduate degree in biology from the University of California, San Diego in La Jolla, California. She then completed a graduate degree and Doctor of Philosophy in clinical psychology from the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Dr. Barsema completed an American Psychology Association approved neuropsychology internship at the VA Maryland Health Care System/University of Maryland School of Medicine Consortium in Baltimore, Maryland. She followed up with a fellowship in adult and geriatric neuropsychology at the Southern California Consortium for Advanced Training in Neuropsychology in San Diego, California. Dr. Barsema is passionate about early detection of dementia, and helping individuals with dementia and their caregivers optimize quality of life. She values the opportunity to provide patients and families, along with their medical team, the information needed to make informed decisions regarding clinical care and future planning. In addition, to working with individuals who are experiencing memory loss related to aging, Dr. Barsema has experience completing evaluations and providing treatment for individuals with a diverse range of neurological and psychiatric symptoms, including but not limited to traumatic brain injury, epilepsy, depression, and anxiety. She has also worked on interdisciplinary teams with neurologists and neurosurgeons to complete pre-surgical evaluations for epilepsy and Parkinson’s disease treatments. She is a member of the American Psychological Association, Gerontological Society of America and International Neuropsychological Society.
