She received her Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Kentucky College of Medicine in Lexington, Kentucky, graduating with honors. Shen then completed an internal medicine residency at the University of Kentucky Chandler Medical Center in Lexington, Kentucky, followed by a hematology and oncology fellowship at Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri.

      Dr. Hopman is an accomplished author, having contributed to a number of professional journals and symptosiums on blood disorders.
