Doctor Bio
Dr. Ravi Vaswani is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon who specializes in sports medicine and shoulder surgery and is with BayCare Medical Group in Wesley Chapel, Florida, where he sees patients age 12 and older. He earned a Doctor of Medicine from New York University School of Medicine in New York, New York, where he received honors in orthopedic surgery. Dr. Vaswani completed an orthopedic surgery internship and residency at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, under the mentorship of world-renowned orthopedic surgeon Dr. Freddie Fu, and was selected as the chief resident in charge of education. He completed the orthopedic sports medicine and shoulder surgery fellowship at the Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS) in New York, New York, the number one orthopedic hospital in the United States, where he trained under world leaders in sports medicine, shoulder surgery and hip arthroscopy.
While at HSS, Dr. Vaswani cared for numerous professional athletes and served as team physician for the NBA’s Brooklyn Nets. He has specialized training in hip arthroscopy and shoulder replacement surgeries, as well as complex knee, shoulder, hip and elbow surgeries. Dr. Vaswani’s clinical focus is on treating common orthopedic and sports injuries such as ligament tears, meniscus tears, shoulder dislocations and rotator cuff tears as well as chronic orthopedic conditions such as knee and shoulder arthritis and hip impingement. He attempts to improve function using the least invasive treatments, including nonoperative procedures, and when those no longer work, he uses minimally invasive arthroscopic procedures and open surgery of the shoulder, hip, knee, elbow and ankle. Dr. Vaswani is a prolific author and has published over 40 articles in top peer-reviewed journals including Arthroscopy: The Journal of Arthroscopic and Related Surgery and the Journal of Shoulder and Elbow Surgery. He’s a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, the Arthroscopy Association of North America, the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine and the American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons. Dr. Vaswani is affiliated with BayCare Hospital Wesley Chapel. He speaks Hindi and Spanish.
