Pooja K. Desai, MD

Dr. Pooja Desai specializes in pediatric hematology and oncology and cancer predisposition syndromes, and is with BayCare Medical Group in Tampa, Florida, where she sees patients newborn to age 21. She earned a Doctor of Medicine from the Medical University of Lublin in Lublin, Poland, completed a pediatric residency at Texas Tech University Health Science Center in El Paso, Texas, and completed a fellowship in pediatric hematology/oncology/stem cell transplantation from the Zucker School of Medicine/Cohen Children’s Hospital in Queens, New York.

Dr. Desai understands that childhood cancer and blood disorders are worrisome diagnoses, so she thoroughly explains recommended treatment options to her patients and their families. She knows that pediatric patients may not be able to express their concerns and ask questions as an adult would, so she uses a specialized approach to guide them through diagnosis, recovery, follow-up care and survivorship. Dr. Desai is certified in basic life support and pediatric advanced life support. She’s affiliated with St. Joseph’s Hospital. Dr. Desai speaks Gujarati and Spanish.
