Dr. Phillips Harrington is board certified in general surgery and thoracic surgery. A Tampa native, he received his undergraduate degree in biomedical science from Auburn University in Auburn, Alabama. He earned his Doctor of Medicine from the University of Florida College of Medicine in Gainesville, Florida. Dr. Harrington furthered his medical training by completing a surgery internship and general surgery residency at the University of Alabama at Birmingham in Birmingham, Alabama. He then pursued further surgical training, completing a cardiothoracic surgery residency at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia.
Dr. Harrington’s clinical interests include aortic surgery, surgical management of heart failure, minimally invasive valve surgery, including transcatheter valve therapy (TAVR) and off-pump coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG). He has contributed numerous articles in peer-reviewed publications including the Annals of Thoracic Surgery and Journal of Immunology. He is a member of the American College of Surgeons, the Society of Thoracic Surgeons and the International Society for Heart and Lung Transplantation. He sees patients age 18 and older as part of BayCare Medical Group in Tampa, Florida, where he is affiliated with St. Joseph's Hospital.
