Unfortunately, my experience was disappointing. The provider did not ask about my symptoms or concerns, nor did they order or review any hormonal lab work before making broad, outdated statements about perimenopause and hormone replacement therapy (HRT). Instead, I was immediately told that I was too young to be in perimenopause and that HRT-especially while having a Mirena IUD-was bad and dangerous.This contradicts current best practices from menopause specialists and the North American Menopause Society (NAMS), which support HRT as a safe and effective treatment for many women, including those with an IUD. Fortunately, I sought care from a clinician specializing in perimenopause, who took the time to review both my symptoms and lab work before prescribing appropriate treatment that has already improved my quality of life.I encourage the practice to ensure its providers stay up to date on menopause care so that patients receive accurate, evidence-based guidance. A more patient-centered approach-one that includes listening to concerns and reviewing relevant clinical data-would greatly improve the quality of care.
