    • Dr. Jennifer Mariko Thompson is double board-certified in both pediatrics and adolescent medicine and is with BayCare Medical Group in Tampa, Florida, where she sees patients age 8 to 21, addressing gynecologic concerns such as menstrual issues and contraception and is certified in placing subdermal contraceptive implants. She earned a Doctor of Medicine from Florida International University Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine in Miami, Florida, where she was inducted into the Arnold P. Gold Humanism Honor Society and named a finalist for the Leonard Tow Humanism in Medicine Award. Dr. Thompson completed a pediatric residency and adolescent medicine fellowship at Nicklaus Children’s Hospital in Miami, Florida, where she received multiple honors, including the Empathy/Compassionate Caregiver Award, Patient Safety Hero Award, Resident/Fellow Clinical Teaching Award and First Place for Original Research by a Fellow. During her training, Dr. Thompson was featured on CBS Miami and FIU News for her volunteer work as “Dr. Spider-Man,” providing bedside “consults” to uplift patients in the oncology and pediatric intensive care units. After fellowship, she stayed at NCH for an additional two years as Director of Adolescent Medicine Education. 

      Dr. Thompson remains deeply involved in medical education. She started BayCare’s first adolescent medicine clinic to teach the adolescent medicine rotation for the pediatric residency program. At FIU HWCOM, Dr. Thompson serves as an adjunct lecturer, academic advisor, admissions committee interviewer and clinical instructor for its pediatric clinical skills capstone course since its inaugural year. She’s a content contributor and editor for Pediatrics Board Review, working on both the core and MOCA-Peds study guides.

      Dr. Thompson’s academic work includes multiple research and narrative medicine publications, as well as presentations at national conferences, including the Society for Adolescent Health and Medicine (SAHM). During her training, she worked at St. Luke’s International Hospital in Tokyo, Japan. Dr. Thompson is affiliated with BayCare St. Joseph’s Women’s Hospital. She’s fluent in Japanese.
