Dr. Jawahar Taunk is board certified in gastroenterology and internal medicine and is with BayCare Medical Group in Palm Harbor, Florida, where he sees patients age 18 and older. He earned a medical degree from S.M.S. Medical College in Jaipur, India, completed an internal medicine residency from the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Columbia University at Harlem Hospital in New York, New York, and finished a fellowship in gastroenterology from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey/Robert Wood Johnson Medical School in New Brunswick, New Jersey.
Dr. Taunk’s clinical interests include abdominal pain, acid reflux, colon cancer, irritable bowel syndrome and ulcerative colitis. He has extensive experience in the evaluation and management of esophageal disorders and in performing colonoscopies. Dr. Taunk performs some of the highest-quality colonoscopies in the Tampa Bay area, which is determined by how often an adenoma (a precancerous polyp) is detected, measured by a statistic called the adenoma detection rate. He has been rated one of the best gastroenterologists in the area by Vitals.com, selected as America’s Top Gastroenterologist by the Consumer’s Research Council of America and rated a top gastroenterologist in Palm Harbor by the International Association of Healthcare Professionals. Dr. Taunk is a member of the American College of Gastroenterology. He’s affiliated with Mease Countryside Hospital and is the chairman of the Department of Gastroenterology at Mease Hospitals.
