Doctor Bio
Dr. Andrew J. Sherman is board certified in thoracic and cardiac surgery. He specializes in beating heart surgery, valvular heart disease including complex mitral valve repair and multi-valvular disorders, thoracic aneurysm surgery, aortic valve and root disorders, and all aspects of arrhythmia surgery, including thoracoscopic ligation of the left atrial appendage (LAA). Dr. Sherman was one of the first surgeons in the world to perform the convergent procedure, a minimally invasive treatment for patients afflicted with stand-alone atrial fibrillation (AF). He trains electrophysiologists and surgeons throughout the country on this procedure.
Dr. Sherman serves as a principal investigator for multiple ongoing research studies. He regularly speaks and teaches at national and international meetings and conferences on the surgical treatment of AF and LAA management. Dr. Sherman is an active member of the Society of Thoracic Surgeons. He’s the chief of the department of cardiac, vascular and thoracic surgery at St. Joseph’s Hospital and is a co-chair of BayCare’s Adult Cardiac Surgery/ Structural Heart Committee.
