Dr. Akila Iyer is board certified in internal medicine and is with BayCare Medical Group in New Port Richey, Florida, where she sees patients age 18 and older. She earned a medical degree at Stanley Medical College in Chennai, India, and completed an internship and residency in internal medicine at UPMC Shadyside Hospital in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Dr. Iyer was chosen as the best outgoing resident in her class for her compassion and integrity. Over the years, she has mentored nurse practitioners and prospective medical students at her office. Dr. Iyer’s clinical interests include management of chronic medical conditions, comprehensive diabetes care, preventive health care, patient education and guidance toward a healthy lifestyle. She performs minor procedures in the office including tangential skin biopsy, joint injections and well woman exams. Dr. Iyer is a diplomate of the American Board of Internal Medicine.
