Doctor Bio
Dr. Meenakshi Bhalla is board-certified in cardiology, nuclear cardiology, echocardiography and advanced heart failure/cardiac transplant. She earned her medical degree from Indira Gandhi Medical School in Simla, India. She then completed an internship and residency in internal medicine from the State University of New York (SUNY) at Buffalo. Dr. Bhalla then completed fellowships in cardiovascular diseases from the University of Missouri in Columbia, Missouri and advanced heart failure and transplant from the University of Pennsylvania / Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Additionally, Dr. Bhalla was an assistant professor in cardiology at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia and subsequently, associate professor and Director of Ambulatory, Preventive and Rehabilitation Cardiology at the University of Kentucky in Lexington.
Dr. Bhalla specializes in the care of adults with severe heart problems. She has advanced training in the treatment and long-term care of patients with advanced heart failure; patients supported with a mechanical heart pump, such as a left ventricle assist device (LVAD) and heart transplant patients.
Dr. Bhalla is passionate about helping patients with heart disease and enjoys working both with patients and their families. She believes in developing relationships that expands from the critically ill setting in the hospital to the long-term care setting in the outpatient clinic. Diagnosis of heart failure can be frightening for patients and their families. Involving patients and families at every step of the process helps them improve their understanding of the complex disease and make informed decisions to take better care of themselves. Dr. Bhalla is a member of the American Board of Internal Medicine, The International Society of Heart & Lung Transplant, National Board of Echocardiography, Fellow of the American College of Cardiology and Fellow of Heart Failure Society of America. She is affiliated with St. Joseph’s Hospital.
