Dr. Kannya Asokan is board certified in internal medicine and practices with BayCare Medical Group in New Tampa, where she sees patients age 18 and older. She earned her medical degree from PSG Institute of Medical Sciences and Research in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, India. Dr. Asokan then completed an internal medicine internship and residency at Crozer-Chester Medical Center in Upland, Pennsylvania.
Dr. Asokan believes in building good relationships with her geriatric patients and managing some of the acute emergencies in an outpatient setting, such as managing IV fluid for patients presenting with dehydration, asthma and COPD exacerbations. She prefers to identify patients at risk, who need inpatient evaluation and treatment. For over 10 years, Dr. Asokan has used her experience to her advantage in treating young healthy adults and frail elderly patients with multiple co-morbidities. She has made significant impact on her patients and helped to understand key elements for providing good patient care. She strongly believes in empowering her patients to voice their concerns, while being a good listener.
