Mission Statement

The purpose of the Winter Haven Hospital PGY1 residency program is to build on Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) education and outcomes to contribute to the development of clinical pharmacists responsible for medication-related care of patients with a wide range of conditions, eligible for board certification, and eligible for postgraduate year two (PGY2) pharmacy resident training.


Our flexible residency program offers the opportunity for an in-depth experience through a variety of training experiences including but not limited to internal medicine, cardiology, critical care, emergency medicine, infectious disease, hospitalist rounding, informatics, oncology, practice management and transitions of care. The resident also serves as the co-preceptor for pharmacy students from surrounding college of pharmacy programs.

Required Rotations:

  • Orientation 
  • Acute care (internal medicine)
  • Critical care
  • Emergency medicine
  • Infectious disease

Required Longitudinal Rotations:

  • Longitudinal activities and staffing
  • Longitudinal heart function clinic
  • Longitudinal practice management/therapeutic policy longitudinal
  • Longitudinal research

Elective Rotations:

  • Cardiology
  • Hospitalist
  • Informatics
  • Oncology
  • Practice management/therapeutic policy
  • Transitions of care

Special Requirements for Acceptance

  • Submit completed applications to the ASHP
  • Letter(s) – of interest with career objectives 
  • Three recommendations using the forms provided in PhORCAS
  • Curriculum vitae
  • Official transcript
  • Applicants must participate in the matching process
  • Applicants must possess PharmD from an ACPE Accredited College of Pharmacy
  • Onsite interview
