BayCareAnywhere® Virtual Health Care - Flu? Talk to a Doctor Now
While the temperatures haven’t dipped significantly yet, it’s fall in Florida – and flu season. If you think you might have the flu, BayCareAnywhere® physicians are always available to discuss and diagnose your symptoms from the comfort of your home.
The flu is caused by influenza viruses, and it’s a very contagious, viral respiratory illness, which can be mild to severe. Symptoms might include fever, sore throat, cough, muscle aches, stuffy or runny nose and fatigue. Body aches and fever could last up to five days, while you might have fatigue and a cough for an additional two weeks or more.
Keep in mind that flu symptoms may resemble other illnesses, so you should consult a doctor for a diagnosis. You can see a provider in real-time with BayCareAnywhere from your smartphone or computer.
Getting a flu vaccine each year is the best way to prevent the flu. Flu vaccines are available for $30 at a BayCare Urgent Care Center near you.
Remember that anyone can catch the flu at any age. However, some people who get sick, including people age 65 and older, pregnant women, young children and those with certain chronic medical conditions, are at higher risk of developing flu-related complications.
If you have the flu, your doctor will determine a specific treatment based on your age, medical history, the type of influenza, your tolerance for certain medications, and the severity of your symptoms and length of time you’ve had them.
Treatment might include medications to relieve the fever, aches and congestion; increasing your fluid intake; bed rest; or antiviral medications.
BayCareAnywhere is always available during flu season and throughout the year. Our doctors are on hand to help when you need it.
