Prostate Cancer
Prostate cancer, found only in males, affects the fluid-producing gland below the bladder that helps to protect sperm. The American Cancer Society estimates that a man has about a 1 in 6 chance of developing this cancer in his lifetime. Possible symptoms of prostate cancer include blood in the urine or semen, bone pain in the spine, hips or ribs and pain when urinating. These symptoms are not always indicative of prostate cancer, but it is important to pay close attention to your body and alert your doctor to any changes you notice.
The single best way to successfully combat prostate cancer is to catch it in its early stages. Discuss screening options with your doctor to determine the appropriate tests based on your age, lifestyle and any genetic predispositions. Some of the most common screening procedures for prostate cancer include digital rectal exams (DREs), prostate ultrasounds and prostate-specific tumor market blood tests (PSAs). BayCare has outpatient imaging centers and outpatient labs in convenient locations across Tampa Bay.
BayCare offers a comprehensive range of state-of-the-art treatments for prostate cancer, including chemotherapy, radiation therapy, biologic therapy, hormone therapy, and minimally invasive surgical options such as laparoscopic prostate surgery and robotic-assisted radical prostatectomy.

Bladder Cancer
Bladder cancer most often affects the innermost layer of the bladder, the organ located above the pubic bone that stores urine. While fairly rare in children, this type of cancer can affect both men and women and is most common in white males over the age of 55. Be sure to see your doctor if you experience abnormalities such as bladder pain, changes in bladder habits or difficulty urinating.
BayCare provides preventive screenings, diagnostic testing and imaging for bladder cancer, in addition to a range of innovative treatments. From intravesical chemotherapy and radiation therapy to transurethral resection and cystectomy (complete or partial removal of the bladder), we offer all these services in a caring, compassionate environment.

Kidney Cancer
The majority of kidney cancers begin in the lining of the kidneys’ tubes. This disease can affect men and women, though white men over age 45 are at an increased risk. The American Cancer Society estimates the lifetime risk for kidney cancer at 1 in 63. Although not usually indicative of kidney cancer, certain symptoms like unexplained weight loss, chronic fatigue and bloody urine should be brought to the attention of your doctor.
BayCare’s wide range of services for the early detection, diagnosis and treatment of kidney cancer include fine needle aspiration, renal ultrasound, chemotherapy, radiation therapy, biologic therapy, targeted drug therapy and robotic surgery.

Testicular Cancer
Testicular cancer is a disease affecting one or both testicles. The American Cancer Society estimates that a man has a 1 in 270 chance of developing testicular cancer. White men between the ages of 20 and 34 or with a family history of testicular cancer are at a great risk. Because lumps or other abnormalities on the testicles can usually be seen right away, the chances of early detection, diagnosis and treatment of testicular cancer are good.
In addition to diagnostic and imaging exams, BayCare offers surgery, chemotherapy and radiation therapy for testicular cancer.
