St. Joseph's Hospital Post-Graduate Year One (PGY1) Pharmacy Residency Program is a 12-month ASHP accredited program that provides experience in a wide variety of settings.

Practice areas include hematology/oncology, cardiology, critical care, surgery, nutritional support, emergency medicine, women's health, internal medicine, pediatrics, and therapeutic policy. 

The PGY1 residency program provides extensive training and development in many aspects of acute care. The resident will spend one month orienting to the hospitals on campus and Department of Pharmacy. After completing six core rotations, the resident will select elective rotations to complete the program. The residency program is committed to providing a customized experience, thereby allowing flexibility in the design and length of rotation experiences.

The resident will function as an integral part of the department's patient care services. These responsibilities include the provision of pharmaceutical care, patient education within inpatient and outpatient settings, collaboration with preceptors in the education of pharmacy students, committee membership, medication safety initiatives, and operational activities.

The resident is expected to complete various projects throughout the year including, but not limited to, a research project to be presented at the Southeastern Residency Conference, participation in the University of Florida Teaching Certificate Program, and a poster presentation at the ASHP Midyear Clinical Meeting.

Requirements for Acceptance

  • Letter of intent
  • Current Curriculum Vitae
  • Three letters of recommendation
  • Official transcript from all colleges of pharmacy attended

Additional Requirements

  • Possession of a Pharm.D. or B.S. degree from an ACPE-accredited college of pharmacy
  • Successful completion of the Florida State Board Examination within the first 60 days of the program
  • On-site interview
