Urinary Diversion/Suprapubic or Ileal Conduits

Urinary diversion is a surgical procedure to change the path of urine flow due to a diseased or damaged bladder, urethra or ureters. Urinary diversion with illeal conduit is a procedure using intestinal tissue to create a small reservoir to reroute urine through the ureters to an opening (stoma) in the skin. The opening drains the collected urine. A suprapubic urinary diversion is a direct catheter draining urine from the bladder through an opening in the abdomen.
