Laceration and Wound Care

Lacerations are large cuts and open wounds that are large and deep.

BayCare Medical Group Pediatric Extended Care at Carrollwood will clean the wound and use stitches (also known as sutures) or other types of methods to close it. Antibiotics may be prescribed to prevent infection. Non-narcotic pain medication may also be recommended. A tetanus shot could be given if the patient has not had one within the last five years.

The provider will also check for bone, muscle and nerve damage. BayCare Medical Group Pediatric Extended Care at Carrollwood can also remove stitches.
