Abdominal Drain

An abdominal drain is when a small plastic tube is inserted into the abdomen. The tube is used to remove pus causing infections and to drain leaks from the bile ducts, bowels, pancreas or urinary tract. Infected blood is also removed with an abdominal drain. Blockages in the urinary system and bile ducts are also cleared through this procedure. Kidney stones may also be treated with abdominal drainage.
