Esophageal Impedance pH Monitoring

Esophageal impedance Ph monitoring evaluates how much stomach acid is entering the esophagus and the length of time that the acid remains there. A thin tube is inserted through the nose or mouth and passed to the stomach. A monitor on the tube records the acid level in the esophagus. The monitor is worn for an extended period. This is a test for gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). For adults , a hospital stay is usually not necessary for this test. A hospital stay is usually necessary for infants and children for this test.
