Arterial Embolization

Arterial embolization is used to decrease the size of the tumor when surgery is not plausible. A small cut is made and a catheter is placed in an artery near the groin. Sponge-like materials are inserted through the catheter into the blood vessel. The sponges obstruct flowing blood to the organ and block cancer cells from obtaining oxygen and other matter they need for growth.
