Bilateral Salpingo-Oophorectomy (BSO)

In a bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy (BSO), the surgeon removes both fallopian tubes and both ovaries. This surgery is usually performed at the same time the uterus is removed to treat cervical cancers. This procedures may also be an option for patients that test positive for the BRCA1 or BRCA2 genes. This is performed in open, minimally invasive laparoscopic or robotic surgery.
