Intraoperative Neurophysical Monitoring

Intraoperative neurophysical monitoring assesses the functioning of the central or peripheral nervous system during surgery or another acute settings. Intraoperative neurophysical monitoring works to protect the patient's nervous system. Signals are observed during surgery for adverse changes. If adverse changes are indicated during surgery, corrective action is immediately taken. Corrective action includes new surgical maneuvers; anesthetic, pharmacological or physiological adjustments; electrical equipment adjustment or patient repositioning. Intraoperative neurophysical monitoring can prevent postoperative neurological deficiencies and impairments of body functions including weakness, loss of hearing or other damage.
