Reduce Lab Turnaround time by improving order to collect times.
Charge nurse helps to prevent bottlenecks and oversees movement within the department. When at capacity,
assure that patients receive continuous care in the ED while waiting for their inpatient bed. Patient experience committee reviews reasons for
delays in inpatient bed availability. A throughput
committee has been developed to reduce ED times. Also, a ZIP process has been newly implemented to move patients with specific symptoms from
the ED to the hospital floors and reduce waiting times. A team is also being led by the Director of Nursing to improve hospital-wide
turnaround times. We have improved our patient flow processes to decrease time and have opened a Discharge
Hospitality center which allows patients to be moved to a safe location while waiting for last minute discharge details such as
medications or rides home. Winter Haven hospital is opening a new medical observation unit that will help us expedite your admission process by providing an
increased number of beds to serve our community. Identify potential sites for alternative  beds.  ED Department to move patient
in registration system upon leaving the department.  Charge nurse helps to prevent bottlenecks and oversees movement within the department. Utilize 'Divert Alert' to prevent a backup of ready to transport admitted patients due to lack of personnel. When at capacity, assure that patients receive care in the ED while waiting for their inpatient bed. Committee
reviews reasons for delays in inpatient bed availability. Daily nursing communication and education is provided
and efforts are being made to improve times to obtain lab/radiology tests.  Created 'vertical bed area' to facilitate non-emergent care. A throughput committee has been developed to reduce ED times. Also, a ZIP process has been implemented to move patients with specific symptoms from the ED to the hospital floors and reduce waiting times. A team is also being led by the Director of Nursing focusing on discharges before 11 am to free beds.  A dedicated ED transport team is now in place and ICU nurses retrieve the admitted patient from ED personally.  We have improved our patient flow processes to decrease time and have opened a Discharge Hospitality center which allows patients
to be moved to a safe location while waiting for last minute discharge details such as medications or rides home. This frees up beds for patients waiting to be admitted. Winter Haven hospital is opening a new medical observation unit that
will help us expedite your admission process by providing an increased number of beds to serve our community as well as increasing the
number of inpatient beds for our community. Separation of less severe patients and
higher severity patients allows more efficient treatment. Charge nurse helps to prevent bottlenecks and oversees movement within the department. Daily nursing communication and education. Efforts to improve times to obtain lab/radiology
tests.  Created 'vertical bed area' to facilitate non-emergent care. ED Expansion
will be finalized within 2 weeks.  Daily reporting of throughput measures within department. New ED will have a new results pending area for
lower acuity patients.  Positions have been opened to staff a 4
bed admission unit, which will free up additional ER beds for patient evaluation and treatment.  Additional
medical staff hours have been added. The charge nurse role has been modified to allow more time to address ER volume. We have opened more beds in the area for patients with less emergent needs. Improved our patient
flow processes to decrease time and opened a Discharge Hospitality center which allows patients to be moved to a safe
location while waiting for last minute discharge details such as medications or rides home. Winter Haven ER has
implemented many process to expedite each piece of your visit to the Emergency Room.  Taking you back directly to an ER bed is our first priority
to provide you fast efficient care. We currently work with patient placement to use both internal and community resources for placement, as well as have Psychiatry evaluate patients to determine best course of treatment for the individual. We will be expanding our Psychiatric holding beds from 6 to 12 to help with the increase in psychiatric volume.  This will allow us to get patients the specialized care they need faster. Implemented new Smart Track model with
physician present in triage.  Times are tracked and presented daily to the team. Lower acuity patients triaged and seen quicker using a designated Reporting daily metrics on key quality measures.  Physician staffing has been increased. Positions
have been opened to staff a 4 bed admission unit, which will free up additional ER beds for patient evaluation and
treatment.   Additional medical staff hours have been added.  The charge nurse role has been modified to allow more time to address ER volume. We have changed patient flow processes which allows the patient to be seen in triage by a provider. Implemented a direct bedding process
where staff move patients to treatment rooms as soon as possible, which may include doing registration at the patient's bed. Winter Haven ER has implemented many process to expedite each piece of your visit to the
Emergency Room.  Increasing the number of physicians that work in the ER and physician support to provide efficient and excellent service. Pain is very important to us and we have put processes in place to quickly identify fractures and pain associated with
it to provide pain relief as quickly as possible.
