Tanya Bogle, MD

Medical School: Florida International University
Interests: Learning languages, culture, travel, piano, guitar, salsa dancing and Argentine tango.
Of Note: Tanya conducted research at the Hannover Medical Research Center in Hannover, Germany.  She also speaks 10 languages.

Lindsey Buchtel, MD

Medical School: Louisiana State University
Interests: Singing, piano, reading
Of Note:  Lindsey has volunteered at Camp Tiger, a camp for special needs children, and with Project Lazarus, an HIV/AIDS group home.

Gwendolyn “Tina” Clayton, MD

Medical School: University of Miami
Interests: Reading, travel, weight-lifting, golf, attending sporting events and charitable fund-raisers.
Of Note:  Tina was awarded a one year research grant through the University of Florida University Scholars Program to study the use of recombinant DNA technology to interrupt a canine herpes virus.  Other research experiences include studying zinc deficiencies in a population of professional athletes and breast cancer research.

Emily Rosenberg, MD

Medical School: University of Vermont
Interests: Photography, downhill skiing, running, hiking, kayaking, music and singing.
Of Note: Emily spent 6 months training as a volunteer educator for Imaging the World, which culminated in a trip to Uganda to train Ugandan health care providers in the methods of ultrasound technology.

Juan Gomez, MD

Medical School: San Juan Bautista School of Medicine
Interests: Salsa dancing, football, reading, outdoor activities, soccer.
Of Note:  Juan was one of the founders of the AMA chapter at his medical school.  His research experience includes work with prostate cancer among Hispanics and domestic violence.

Deslyn Hughes, MD

Medical School: Chicago Medical School
Interests: Piano, painting, sketching.
Of Note:  Deslyn has volunteer experience with Habitat for Humanity, Special Olympics, Miles for Smiles and the March of Dimes.

Karl Slazinski, MD

Medical School: Universidad Central del Caribe
Interests: Playing the double bass, cooking, hosting dinner parties, people watching, reading, watching documentaries, animals.
Of Note:  Karl is the founding president of the Family Medicine Interest Group at his medical school.  His multiple volunteer experiences include free clinics and homeless outreach programs.

Matthew Vermeer, MD

Medical School: St. George’s University
Interests: Soccer, music, meteorology, travel.
Of Note:  Matthew was a long-term volunteer at the Bakas Equestrian Center where he assisted handicapped individuals with therapeutic horseback riding.
