Diabetes Services in Clearwater, Florida

The Morton Plant Mease Diabetes Education Center is the community's leader in diabetes education and treatment. With a team of expert diabetes professionals, we are helping people with diabetes shape healthier lives and slow or prevent major complications like blindness, kidney failure and heart disease.

Our Certified Diabetes Educators teach people with diabetes how to live their lives with hope, not fear. Through diabetes self-management courses and lifestyle counseling, individuals learn how to:

  • Make healthy food choices
  • Keep blood sugar in check
  • Incorporate exercise into their lives
  • Care for personal needs
  • Make smart decisions about medication

Diabetes services we offer include:

  • Comprehensive Self-Management Diabetes Class - Offering up to 10 hours of diabetes education services using three main modes of teaching:  individual education sessions, collaborative group classes, and individualized nutrition counseling. This is a patient-centered program to help individuals with diabetes gain the knowledge and skills needed to modify behavior and successfully manage their disease and its related health conditions. Weekday and weekend classes are available.
  • Gestational Diabetes Program - Roughly 10 percent of all pregnant women develop diabetes. To give them the knowledge and tools they need to have a safe pregnancy and delivery, our diabetes team has developed a special program for expectant moms. They receive medical guidance, nutritional counseling and meal planning from a registered nurse and nutritionist who are both certified diabetes educators. As a community service, we also loan blood sugar meters to any moms in need. Blood sugar control and risk factor management are the cornerstones of the Morton Plant Mease Diabetes Education Center.
  • One-on-One Education - Individual appointments are available with our certified diabetes educators. Our dietitians and registered nurses offer specialized assistance on topics such as pump therapy, medical nutrition therapy, and insulin initiation and meter training.
  • Prediabetes Workshop - The workshop highlights lifestyle strategies to prevent or delay progression to type 2 diabetes. Physician referral is required for this workshop.
  • Diabetes Community Series - Our free Diabetes Community Series is open to anyone interested in learning about proper nutrition, possible complications and day-to-day self management. Sessions are presented by certified diabetes educators and medical specialists. We invite you to attend one or all of these informative classes.
  • Diabetes Follow-up Class/Support Group - Free classes open to individuals who have attended a Morton Plant Mease diabetes self-management class or who are seeking diabetes management support.
