Understanding Your Cancer Risk

At BayCare, we believe in empowering you to proactively manage your health, especially when it comes to reducing your risk for cancer. So, we’re proud to offer a free Cancer Risk Assessment, powered by CancerIQ. This easy-to-use tool helps you understand how your personal and family health history might influence your risk for certain cancers. Knowing this information can be life changing, guiding you toward additional screenings to detect cancer earlier or other measures that may prevent it altogether. Our specialized high-risk cancer surveillance program uses this platform to identify those at elevated risk for several cancers, including breast, colon, lung and others. It’s a quick process with immediate results. Proactive care and prevention are important tools in committing to your continued well-being.
  • What types of cancer do you screen for?
BayCare Cancer Institute’s Cancer Risk Assessment offers comprehensive screening for breast, colorectal, endometrial, gastric, kidney, lung, ovarian, pancreatic and prostate cancers.
  • What happens after I take the Cancer Risk Assessment Questionnaire?
    • After you complete the free online assessment, you’ll receive a report with personalized insights and recommendations.
    • If your assessment indicates that you’re at high risk for cancer, and you’ve opted to receive follow up from our team, one of our specialists will call you to schedule a time for an additional discussion about your results, and recommendations for next steps.
    • We’ll walk you through every step of the process.
  • Is the cancer risk assessment covered by my insurance?
There’s no charge to take BayCare's Cancer Risk Assessment questionnaire. However, if your assessment indicates you’re at high risk, additional follow-up appointments, screenings or treatments may be recommended. Go to our Insurance Plans Accepted page for information about accepted insurances. Remember to contact your insurer before treatment to verify coverage.
  • What if the cancers in my family aren’t included in the Cancer Risk Assessment?
While BayCare's Cancer Risk Assessment screens individuals for the more common cancer risks (breast, colorectal, lung, etc.), it doesn’t screen for cancers that are more rare. If you have a personal or family history of a rare cancer, genetic counseling and testing may still be beneficial for you and your family. BayCare offers genetic counseling services, so discuss your family history of cancer with your health care provider to determine if genetic counseling and testing is right for you.
  • Is this assessment only for people who already have cancer?
The BayCare Cancer Risk Assessment is for anyone who wants to understand their cancer risk. Regardless of your age or medical history, the BayCare Cancer Risk Assessment can help uncover potential risks linked to family history or other contributing factors, so you can take proactive steps toward prevention and early detection and catch cancer in its earliest, most treatable stages.
