Tampa Bay in Scrubs Frequently Asked Questions
1. What time should I arrive at the hospital?
Please arrive by 7:15am and report to the Medical Arts Building (“MAB”) auditorium which is located on the first floor of the MAB. The auditorium is located directly across from Indigo Café.
2. Do I have to wear the scrubs that were provided to me?
Due to the nature of the program, we do require that scrubs be worn to participate. Please report the morning of the event wearing your scrubs.
3. Where is St. Joseph’s Hospital?
St. Joseph’s Hospital is located at 3001 W. MLK Jr. Blvd. Tampa, FL 33607.
4. Where do I park once I arrive?
Please park in the Medical Arts Building (“MAB”) parking garage located on the corner of MacDill Ave. and Dr. MLK Jr. Blvd. Parking is complimentary. Valet parking is also available in the roundabout entrance of the Medical Arts Building Main Entrance at 3003 W. MLK Jr. Blvd. Tampa, FL 33607.
5. My scrubs don’t fit! What should I do?
We will have additional scrub sizes on-site to trade. Upon arrival, please let a Tampa in Scrubs volunteer know you would like a different size.
6. What shoes should I wear?
Please wear comfortable closed toed shoes while attending this event.
7. Will I be able to bring my cell phone?
Yes, cell phones will be permitted but they must be on silent during the track programs.
8. May I take photos during the event?
Photos will be permitted in designated areas only. Professional photographers will be on-site for additional photo opportunities.
9. Do I need to sign anything?
Yes, at registration, you will be given a Short-Term/Shadowing and Temporary Volunteer Application to fill out.
10. Are there breaks built into the program?
There will be a 30 minute business break in between track sessions at 10am.
11. Will breakfast and lunch be provided?
Yes, breakfast will be provided upon arrival and lunch will be provided following your last track.
12. I need to leave the event early. What should I do?
We hope that you can attend the entire event, however, if an emergency arises and you must leave please let your track leader know as soon as possible.
13. How often do you offer Tampa in Scrubs?
We currently offer Tampa in Scrubs one time a year. If interested in a future offering, please fill out the interest form on the top of the tampainscrubs.org webpage.
14. I have a friend who wants to attend. Who should they contact?
Please refer interested parties to our Tampa in Scrubs website at TampaInScrubs.org and advise them to fill out the interest form at the top of the webpage.
15. What tracks are available to choose from?
Emergency Services - An Excursion into the ER: Experience a place where the doors never close and our dedicated staff never stops providing exceptional care. This excursion will give you a behind the scenes view of real emergency situations.
Cardiology- The Heart of the Hospital: Spend some time visiting one of the most advanced and comprehensive centers for cardiovascular care in Florida.
Pediatrics - Exclusively a Kid for the Day: See what it is like to be a kid in the St. Joseph’s Children’s Hospital, a hospital created exclusively for kids.
Women’s Services - Womb to World: Experience what it’s like to work in St. Joseph’s Women’s Hospital, Tampa’s only hospital dedicated to women. From birth to the wellness treatments of women at all ages, this track will allow you to follow well-being of women through all stages of life.
Robotics - Making Rounds with Robots: Come see how this minimally invasive alternative to traditional surgery works by spending some time with our robotics surgery team and our da Vinci Robotic Surgical System.
Imaging - Imagine the Possibilities: Spend some time with our staff and their machines that allow us to take an important and intimate look into the human body.
Cancer Institute - Center of Specialized Care: check out the advanced technology and cutting-edge cancer research at the center of our hospital.
Facilities - Prepared for Anything: See what it takes to keep a hospital running 24/7 and how we are prepared for emergency situations.
16. I didn’t get the track I wanted, may I switch?
The track selections are organized on a first come, first serve basis and unfortunately we are not able to switch attendees for the track programs.
17. How long is each track?
You can expect to spend 2 hours with your specified track leaders and clinical team for each session.
