Pediatric Cardiac MRI
Cardiac Magnetic Resonance Imaging provides thorough and in-depth details of the heart structure and its function in children with various heart diseases. MRI does not use ionizing radiation. It uses strong magnets to create pictures of the heart. It is non-invasive and is often an alternative to cardiac catheterization.
St. Joseph's Children's Hospital: Choosing the right scan at the right time
MRI generates high resolution images that show good contrast between blood and the heart muscle allowing thorough evaluation of the heart function and structure. This makes cardiac MRI an easy choice for diagnosing disease in many children. Cardiac MRI can answer questions that other tests, such as echocardiograms, cannot answer. It can also be a very important diagnostic instrument when making decisions and planning for cardiac surgery.
