LSVT BIG®

LSVT BIG is a research-based exercise approach to improve the quality of life for those living with Parkinson’s disease. Named for Mrs. Lee Silverman (Lee Silverman Voice Treatment), a woman living with Parkinson’s, LSVT has been researched and developed for more than 20 years. The program has documented improved ratings on tests of motor function showing improvements on faster walking and bigger steps, balance, trunk rotation, and gross and fine motor functioning. These exercises can decrease the risk of falls and increase independence.

LSVT BIG is a standardized treatment protocol consisting of:

  • 16 sessions: Four consecutive days a week for four weeks
  • Individual one-hour sessions
  • Daily homework practice
  • Daily carryover exercises

LSVT BIG will help you establish a lifelong habit of good movement practice and improve the quality of your life. This program empowers those with Parkinson’s disease and other neurological conditions to keep moving and stay active. These techniques are designed to train individuals how to produce bigger movements in daily living activities. Research shows that you shouldn’t wait until you begin to experience disability and loss of balance to begin treatment. It’s also important that these treatments are given by an LSVT BIG-certified clinician.
