History

Morton Plant North Bay Hospital interiorMorton Plant North Bay Hospital is the birthplace of West Pasco County health care. When it opened in September 1965, the 50-bed facility was the first hospital in New Port Richey. Today, our hospital has 154 beds and our campus has nearly doubled. This enables us to offer more services, improved technology and greater convenience for all your medical needs.

To meet the growing health care needs of our community, we have constructed and renovated much of our hospital in the past decade:

  • Starkey Tower features an intensive care unit equipped with the latest technology and two floors of private patient rooms. Free community seminars, health screenings and support groups are held in the tower’s Richard and Laura Bekesh Education and Conference Center.
  • Medical Arts Building provides easy access to outpatient services including lab testing, sleep studies, and physical, occupational and speech therapies. It is also home to primary care and specialty physician offices.
  • Cardiovascular Center uses advanced technology to provide high-quality care for the detection and treatment of cardiovascular disease. Procedures include heart catheterization, angioplasty and stent placement.
  • Surgery Center features six state-of-the-art operating suites and two endoscopy/procedure suites, where we provide an array of surgical services, including minimally invasive techniques.
  • The Front Entrance was relocated on the north side of the hospital campus for the convenience of our patients and visitors.
  • Mitchell Rehabilitation Hospital at Morton Plant North Bay has recently expanded to 30 new, all-private rooms, to offer patients a more comfortable and pleasant rehabilitative experience. Our team provides specialized multi-disciplinary rehabilitative care for patients regain their independence. Mitchell Rehabilitation Hospital is the only Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities accredited facility in Pasco and Hernando counties, and specializes in stroke and orthopedic rehabilitation.
  • The Emergency Department was expanded -- it’s larger, has private treatment rooms, and is more technologically advanced and more efficient than ever before. And our new 15-bed Observation Unit is for patients who require evaluation and treatment for a longer period of time.
  • The Imaging Department is being renovated, including adding equipment upgrades as well as an MRI Suite and a Nuclear Medicine Suite
But no matter how much we renovate and expand, now and in the future, what makes us special is how we care for you. At Morton Plant North Bay Hospital, you get personalized, quality health care from a compassionate, experienced team, dedicated to caring for you completely. And that’s a good look for everyone.
