Essential Emergency First-Aid Steps
Assess the situation.
Call for emergency medical help if it's needed.
Perform CPR if the person can't breathe and you're trained to perform it.
Stop any bleeding by applying direct pressure -- but first cover your hands with rubber gloves or wrap them in a plastic bag.
Treat shock symptoms by covering the person with a blanket or extra clothing.
Check for a medic-alert bracelet.
Comfort the person until help arrives.
