Be on the Lookout for Scaly Skin Patches

Actinic keratoses (AKs) -- rough, red, scaly patches, crusts or sores on the top layer of skin -- are common, according to the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD). If left untreated, some can progress to squamous cell carcinoma, a type of skin cancer that can be fatal. See your health care provider if you have AKs on any part of your body.
