Lung Cancer Diagnosis and Treatment
Lung often goes undiagnosed and untreated until it is in its late stages, either because there are no symptoms or the symptoms are assumed to be caused by the effects of smoking. However, if lung cancer is detected early, the survival rate is much higher. Lung cancer screenings may be appropriate for patients who are considered at risk for lung cancer. One or more of the following diagnostic tests may be recommended if you experience symptoms:
- Low-dose lung CT
- Endoscopic esophageal ultrasound (EUS)
Treatment for lung cancer will likely involve some combination of surgery, chemotherapy or radiation therapy.
