After his residency, Dr. Farrar returned home to Louisville, KY, and joined a private practice with a group of physicians that had taken care of his family since he was a boy. He eventually became Medical Director there and helped expand the practice into an underserved rural community. Meanwhile, he continued to develop his passion for sports medicine that began in residency by volunteering as team physician for a local high school. He wanted to develop his skills in sports medicine, and so he joined the fellowship program in sports medicine at Halifax Medical Center.

He joined the faculty of the USF-MPM Family Medicine Residency in 2007 and helped establish the sports medicine fellowship in 2010 – he has been the director since 2012. He is the lead US Medical Physician for the Toronto Blue Jays, a volunteer Medical Physician for the Philadelphia Phillies and Medical Director for IronMan70.3 Florida, as well as an active member within the American Medical Society of Sports Medicine (AMSSM).

Dr. Farrar enjoys weekend outings with his wife and three children and competing in an occasional road race or triathlon.
