Electrophysiology
Electrophysiology is the study of diagnosing and treating irregular heart rhythms, or arrhythmias. Electrical activity in the heart is regulated by the heart’s natural pacemaker called the sinoatrial node. Abnormalities in these electrical impulses being sent through the heart can cause the heart to beat too slowly (bradycardia), too quickly (tachycardia), or irregularly (palpitations). By conducting an electrophysiology (EP) study, your doctor can determine what kind of heart condition you have and the best course of treatment. Many different types of treatments are available for arrhythmias and other conditions such as pacemakers, minimally invasive cardiac ablation, or surgery.
